Today I stopped in to a local Magic Store... Forgot what it is like, had a great time, even as a dealer I still bought a few effects. Simple fun card stuff. I think I will try and stop in once a week or so. This was a shop that has moved from many locations over the years but still exists. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and Magic Inc. was to far to go as a kid 40 years ago. So I rode my bike to PJ's Trick Shop. PJ is still behind the counter. I bought a card effect today that was so freshly invented by PJ he didn't even name it yet! Miss the old days.

I buy 432 Ball and Vases at a time (.37 cents ea) for my brick and mortar shop and I stapled my business card to them. Every few weeks I pick a community in my city and put them in every mail box with help. GREAT form of cheap advertising.....and I get new customers.

With a Brick and Mortar you just have to get inventive and expand opporutinites. I still do the occasional Birthday Party so get to the show early and deliver Ball and vases to every house on a 2 or 3 block radius
I bet you had a great time and spent some money. When I visit them it's like an Aladdin's cave of Magical Goodies.
I live in a magic shop! Actually Hershey Magic lives on the south side of my home! http://hersheymagic.com
Well.... lets see it has been to long. But the last time was Hollywood Magic. My family home is in San Diego I went to the closing day of Brad Burt's old shop. It was sad to see it go..=  (  Brad is a great guy.  I love the atmosphere  and the social aspect of the brick and mortar magic shops. -  Ed
From "Clicks to Bricks" my friends. .......
I'm really spoiled.  I live a few hours from Denny & Lee's and there are two other brick and mortar shops pretty close: Kurt's Magic World in Lansdale and Trickzone in Philadelphia.  I love brick & mortar shops.

My customers continually tell me how much they enjoy buying magic at my store. They get to see live demonstrations and could instantly buy what they want. When I get tgo know them, I save them money and time in the long run.

My favorite brick and mortar store of the past was Phil Thomas's "The Yogi Magic Mart," of Baltimore, Maryland. What a friendly man Phil was and you could tell he wasn't in it to "make a buck." He did it as a true labor of love! There is something special about a magic shop that is unlike buying magic any other way!

That's GREAT! I find exactly the same thing with my customers. We can also help them with "Extra Handlings" New moves etc etc. You don't get any of that over the internet, & yes we can save customers money in the long run, as we get to know what they would like!

I love going to Bricks and Mortar shops as they are an Aladdin's cave of Magical Goodies. You can see demonstrations and get extra handling moves of tricks. Once they know what suits you they give invaluable advice and support. They save you time and money as well.
